cool fan-like effect with the converging parallel lines (due to the wide angle). The DOF effect is also neat: must have been tricky to accomplish without complete manual control of the camera settings.

@baobab: thanks. i had to retake this a bunch of times, and when i finally thought it'd be okay, i realized there had been dust on the notepad that was showing up, so i had to wipe off the notepad and start over... forgive my ignorance but what does the "DOF effect" refer to?
Sorry - I should have spelled it out. DOF = depth of field. I like the way that you have sharp focus near the red lines, and that the blue lines blur (also referred to with the technical term 'bokeh', a Japanese word meaning blur) both in the near-ground and as they recede into the distance.
It must have been frustrating to see the dust... but the effort of repeating the shot was worth it. I'm not sure how much fine control you have of the precise area of focus with your camera [very fine control can be tricky even with an SLR] In this shot the sharpest focus is just past the red lines, around the 'a' in 'value'. Did you capture any shots with the red lines in sharpest focus? Shifting the focus very slightly to the red lines would probably draw the viewer's attention from the text on the left across and up the shot.
(Recently I've been trying to think about how people experience and look at images. The analysis seems easier with someone else's shots than with my own: I learn something every time I think hard about your shots, so hope you don't mind the detailed questions)
A couple of recent Aminus3 spotlight images have used DOF to interesting effect too - see temptation and clown II.

@baobab: cool. thanks. i hadn't ever looked at aminus3 spotlight before. no, i didn't get any with the red lines in the most sharp part. it appears my camera does allow me in the programmable setting to control focus somewhat (options: [something that looks like an infinite symbol], 7m, 3m, 1m, 0.5m, Center AF, Multi AF). I need to try playing around with those to see what effect they have. But it's been set to Multi AF til now, and I just keep retaking photos til I get something I find acceptable.
That must take lots of patience! I sometimes find it a challenge to get very precise focus with my SLR for macro shots (using autofocus + the manual grab ring). It's far more of a challenge to get the effect you want with a more automated camera - kudos to you!

Interesting photo detail.

Interesting. Proves that there's a photographic opportunity just about any where!

@Sujit Sudhi: Thanks. I guess that's the beauty of macro photos.
As previously mentioned great use of DOF (Depth of Field). I find that using a telehphoto lens (e.g. 80-320) automatically creates a cool DOF when focussing in on something from a disdtance.
I also agree with Sujit that there are photo ops everywhere!
