Coincidence that I am also doing similar night shots these days!

Very atmospheric - I like it. The strong diagonals of the vanishing road pulls the viewer into the picture, and the penumbra around the light is very cool.

@baobab: thanks. 'penumbra' so that that's what it's called. i'm just worried the composition looks too bland.
Beautiful. The sepia makes it feel a little sad.

@e.: you're right, it does! it didn't even consciously occur to me though i think that was probably part of the reason i leaned toward the sepia over b&w. interesting point!
You really portray real suburbia.

@chris chisu: thanks a lot. although this technically was in a city not a suburb. but there are plenty of similar scenes in suburban areas i think.
Magnifique ambiance de nuit. J'adore le grain de la photo

@Panography: thank you! (the online translator says you said, "Splendid night ambience. I love the grain of the photograph")
Great Capturem the grain effect adds to the atomosphere

@somitra: thanks!
The proportions of those crosses marking out the parking spaces is interesting --why not bisected at the midpoint? I don't see anyone around. What time of night was this?
30 Jan 2008 10:12am
@Twelvebit: i don't know. but you're right, it's weird how far those lines extend, the only explanation I can think of is maybe so the driver can see them better when parking? to answer your other question I think it was around 8 or 9 at night -- there weren't many people around though there were a few, and it helps that I waited until there weren't any cars coming before stepping out into the middle of the street.
looks a little spooky :)

@alla: yeah i think that's generally how i feel when i'm out somewhere at night and nobody's around.
Nice tones! Love night shots.

A lonely stillness to this shot! Very moody. Well done!

@Ian Bramham: thanks a lot!!!
I don't think it's bland at all: it invites the viewer in to make up a story :-)

@baobab: thanks.
