book case

sorry i'm not able to catch up on everyone's blogs as i'd like to, focusing on other pursuits more now.

Good vertical composition. If only those screw heads were aligned in the same direction ;-) obviously out of your control, but just one of my things :-o

hmm... cold steel. nice treatment with the b&w, which gives a great sense of light and texture. It's a shame that the rhs screw isn't vertical too, since it pulls the eye away toward whatever's in the background. But that's a minor nit to pick.

stepping back, the whole effect is almost ominous.

@baobab: thanks. you're right the disalignment does pull the eye outward a bit. i thought about cropping out a bit of the stuff (files on a shelf) on the right, but i thought it might be good to have so it's a little clearer what the image is -- i added a slight bit of vignetting to sorta pull the eye back in a bit, but i didn't want to put too much and focus the eye on the very center too much (rather than up and down).

to me, had the screws been aligned then it would have been just another photograph, predictable and yes, bland. it's the small imperfections that actually makes the photograph interesting, that one screw alone threw all conventions aside, to me you've made a great statement.

@Mortola: thanks Mortola! this is what i like about Mortola -- when everyone else wants to take out the powerlines to make the photo look 'ideal,' Mortola sees what's great and interesting about what is. a pretty down to earth attitude towards photos. ;)
