19th century Kwakiutl house post
too much going on right now, so i haven't been able to catch up on everyone's blogs--and it's looking like it's only going to get worse. this is actually exciting for other aspects of my life but something has to give... i'll still be posting photos as i can, but since photoblogging is supposed to be my stress relief, not a source of stress (e.g. feeling bad when i'm unable to respond to comments or follow your work--not only because i so appreciate your having doing that for my work but also because i enjoy seeing and being inspired by yours), this will unfortunately have to be one of the things that 'gives.' again, danthro is not disappearing, just appearing less.
Comments, feedback, criticism, suggestions, etc. are always appreciated. Thanks! Image too large? Click the 'small' link in the bottom right corner for a smaller view.

He is very ominous looking. Perhaps meant to ward off evil spirits.

@timothy sullivan: sorry, had to go back and look it up to be sure. kwakiutl house post. but yours was one of the geographically closest guesses.

Your POV works well here!

Very interesting because of the POV and the textures. Is it a Haida sculpture?

@vu@granby - Wolfgang Prigge: Not quite. But close geographically at least! Kwakiutl house post.
I like the detail of the grain and the treatment, but it's the perspective that's impressive. Well done.

Perfect tone choices and PoV here. This makes such a strong statement from such a simple frame.

Like the way the totem towers over the viewer! The shadows and highlight areas of the wood grain helps to instills awe and wonderment of the people who carved it.

Scart, I like the view looking upwards.

Very organic – until, that is, you get up to that "popcorn" ceiling. I'm digging your title: Untitled material culture…hmmm.

@Ron: thanks. well, that's unfortunately what things often become by the time they get to museums.
Great angle and textures
