EARLY SPRING FLOWERS SERIES 7 of ? -- this series will be interrupted tomorrow (http://march19-blogswarm.blogspot.com/) and return in three days. (these are all from 2008)
WINNER OF THE DAY: Sherri, who says these are Azaleas. Thanks for your help, Sherri!
first person who can correctly tell me what kind of flower this is wins (a thank you and a link to your blog is the best i can do for a prize). i don't know the answer (horrible with flower names) which is why i would like to find out.
from looking at some of your blogs i can tell that not everyone is so fortunate to have flowers blooming in their parts of the world now and many are itching for spring time, so i decided to walk around and photograph different flowers. i haven't had a chance to do much of any processing on these aside from a few minutes in picasa. hope you enjoy them!
any tips on photographing flowers? composition is especially much harder than it looks in nature and i already noticed some of the bright reds seem to get a sort of glare on them and some of the lighter ones got washed out. apologies in advance if some of them didn't come out very sharp, etc. there are some i might normally have thrown out but i also wanted to find out what these different flowers are called.
Comments, feedback, criticism, suggestions, etc. are always appreciated. Thanks! Image too large? Click the 'small' link in the bottom right corner for a smaller view.

The best (flower) shot yet! Color and composition really pop, and the light is beautiful.
My hat's off to you for taking a stand and making a statement about the war (I can't wait to see what you do). I might just join you if I can come up with something that would work in making a worthy statement. Thanks for the challenge!

@Ron: Thanks a lot, Ron! This is one of my favorites of the series as well. Thanks for the supportive words!
Don't know the name of the flower, but I agree with Ron that this is your best flower shot so far. Love the composition, beautiful color...great job.
I too am looking forward to the next few posts...well, I always look forward to your posts. I applaud you for having the courage to make a statement about the war. Looking forward to tomorrow.

@Melissa: thanks a lot, Melissa! i always appreciate your kind comments and your own work. i'm not sure how courageous it is though, just an anti-war statement, probably the worst thing i could lose is photoblog viewership, others are losing much more. thanks again!
The colours are so powerful and contrast each other well.

It took me a while, but I figured it out. The plant with the flowers is an azalea bush. It's been cut back or something and the Ivy leaves showing in the forefront appear to be the leaves that go with the flower. However, the leaves that are growing on the same plant with the flowers are much smaller. It's an azalea. Beautiful photo:-)

@sherri: thanks a lot, Sherri! It seems like I caught a few different varieties of Azaleas in this series.
Good for sherri. I got to this late, but immediately knew they were azaleas. Part of being from the Deep South, they are everywhere down this way.
