chakrapani from Hyderabad, IndiaHi , I'd say its very romantic.. I get poetry .if u make a guy/ gal / or a couple to sit for the snap on the bench. :) ..sigh. BTW maybe you have a colour version of this snap.. i'd love to see it. 23 May 2008 9:02am @chakrapani: thanks a lot, chakrapani! at your request i just quickly attempted to make a color version, but i really don't think it looks as good in color even after some processing. i didn't actually save the photoshop file with the processing of the monochrome version, so i had to do something from scratch--but i guess it wouldn't have mattered since i had converted to monochrome in picasa before photoshopping and plus i wouldn't be able to see what shadow/highlight settings (the main thing i did to it) i picked before anyway. Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomThat magnolia tree looks like it was made-to-measure for the gardens there where it fits so perfectly. The toning works well in bringing out the details, too. 23 May 2008 9:42am @Ronnie 2¢: thanks! i spent a lot of time on the tones, glad you like them. Margie from Auckland, New ZealandI love this. I think it's very romantic too...stunning in b/w, great composition, just wonderful! 23 May 2008 11:01am @Margie: thank you very much! dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaThere is so much detail and contrast in this image - absolutely stunning! 23 May 2008 11:56am @dobbino: that's very kind of you to say! thanks! @vu@granby - Wolfgang: lol, thanks! @Alun Lambert: thanks, Alun! sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesHow beautiful! It's an example of what photography's all about, as far as I'm concerned. 23 May 2008 2:23pm @Andrew Gould: wow. i really appreciate it! especially coming from you. thanks a lot!! Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesThis is a stunning image ... the composition, the tones, the exposure all combine for a very compelling image! I could see myself sitting on that untitled bench under tree and enjoying the view! Did you try the bracketing and masking technique to get this or is this straight out of the camera? 23 May 2008 3:28pm @Ron: thanks so much, Ron!! this isn't straight out of the camera, i thought bracketing was in camera? anyway, my processing basically consisted of sharpening, converting to monochrome and playing with shadows a little in picasa, then in photoshop i did a couple shadow/highlight adjustments (that was the main part) and vignetting. @yiannis krikis: thanks a lot, yiannis! It works really well in this monocrome tone. 24 May 2008 9:47pm Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, MexicoI like the composition. Did you HDR before converting to black and white? Just curious. 25 May 2008 10:02pm @Luis A. De Jesus R.: thanks! no, i haven't tried HDR yet. i can't create the images for it in camera without a tripod, since i'd have to take them separately, but i want to try it by creating the images in photoshop sometime.
