Ralph Nader wants YOU

this one came out pretty bad from the camera but i really liked the expression so i just decided to have some fun with it... couldn't decide whether to crop out the arm on the left or the shoulder on the right.

sorry i'm not able to catch up on everyone's blogs as i'd like to, focusing on other pursuits more now.

MMMMHHH !!! Sorry Danthro,I can see what you mean about the expression but it´s not my sort of thing.It does seem to have a old news film look to it though.

It has a certain immediacy and allure about it. If you hadn't said that it came out of the camera like this, there would probably be some who would have thought that it was processed to be like this on purpose.

By the way, did you know that you're number 34 on the photoblogs.org top 100 photoblogs? (I was alerted to the fact that I was there by Mirko in his comment today, and then I saw you even higher up on the list.)

@Andrew Gould: thanks! well, it didn't come out exactly like this, but i guess i tried to emphasize that look a bit more.
and, wow, very cool about the photoblogs.org list! i wonder how on earth that happened (i mean how i got on the list, not you of course)! thanks for letting me know :)

lol, i'm not very familiarized with the american history, but that image it just went around the globe during the war, nice association of ideas.

Despite of being out of focus, I like the gesture you captured, something telling us "I told you so" before "it" happened. Though I still hope we improve our attitude towards our planet Earth.

I would not crop out the shoulder - it adds to the storyline of Nader's point and stare. The image has a nice film grain facet as if captured for a photojournalist essay.

I like the grainy, old newspaper feel and the shoulder gives the viewer a point of reference for Nader's gaze. I also like the Nader-Gonzalez sign in the background. It gives a date and political context for folks who were in the area at the time. And, thank you so much for the post-processing tip. I'm definitely going to try it out. Stay tuned.

I don't think cropping the arm on the right would work for the image. I also don't think you can really crop the elbow on the left because it would also crop the sign. However, you could Photoshop the elbow out and that might be an improvement --or might not. In cases like this I will create the different versions and then toggle back and forth for awhile to decide which one works best.
