untitled elementary school closing 2

went to see someone who lives near an elementary school i attended. he mentioned it's being closed so i decided to take some photos for a series...

one remembers the most random things when visiting places one hasn't been in a long time... when i saw this old drinking fountain i remembered how we'd line up to get a drink at the end of recess and a few times, when i was taking a while drinking, the kid waiting behind me would say, 'Save some for the fish!'--i thought that was very clever at the time.

sorry i'm not able to catch up on everyone's blogs as i'd like to, focusing on other pursuits more now.

I guess hygiene wasn't a priority like it is today. Can you imagine what went on at this water fountain when it was in use?:-) What a vintage capture.

Really great tones ... I think it might have been nice to have some perspective as to the height of the fountain - to remind us that it wasn't built for people our size. I once revisited my elementary school (before it was torn down to make way for a new middle school) and I remember thinking that everything was so small ... the fountains ... the hallways ... the classrooms. It's nice that you're getting to relive these memories from a time when you were very impressionable.

The processing really enhances the grittiness of the dirt. I'm sure it was bittersweet to see these things again. It's interesting how something so simple as a water fountain can stir up memories and emotions.
